Your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) is the amount you must withdraw each year from a traditional IRA or 401(k) starting at age 73. It equals your prior-year-end balance divided by the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table factor for your age (26.5 at 73). Updated June 2026.
How it works
The IRS sets a distribution period (life-expectancy factor) for each age. Your RMD = prior-year-end balance Γ· that factor. Missing an RMD can trigger a penalty, so confirm figures with your plan provider or a tax professional. Roth IRAs have no lifetime RMDs.
