How VAT works in South Africa
VAT is 15% on most goods and services. Add VAT: multiply the price by 1.15. Remove VAT: divide the inclusive total by 1.15 — the VAT equals the total × 15 ÷ 115. Some basic foodstuffs (such as brown bread, maize meal, rice and eggs) are zero-rated.
