Take-Home Pay by State (2026)
How It Works
This tool estimates your 2026 take-home pay. It first subtracts pre-tax deductions (your 401(k) percentage plus any other pre-tax amount) and the standard deduction ($16,100 single / $32,200 married filing jointly), then applies the 2026 federal marginal brackets for federal income tax and your state's latest published brackets for state income tax. It adds FICA โ Social Security at 6.2% up to the $184,500 wage base plus Medicare at 1.45%. Take-home pay is your salary minus federal tax, state tax, FICA and pre-tax deductions, divided by your pay periods for the per-paycheck figure. It excludes local city taxes and tax credits.
FAQ
- How is take-home pay calculated? Take-home pay is your annual salary minus federal income tax and FICA. Federal income tax uses the 2026 marginal brackets on your salary after the standard deduction, and per-paycheck pay is the annual take-home divided by your number of pay periods.
- What is FICA tax in 2026? FICA combines Social Security tax at 6.2% on wages up to the $184,500 wage base plus Medicare tax at 1.45% on all wages, totaling 7.65% up to the Social Security wage base.
- Does this paycheck calculator include state tax? Yes. Pick your state to add 2026 state income tax for any of the 50 states or D.C. (nine states have none). It also supports 401(k) and other pre-tax deductions. It still excludes local city taxes and tax credits.
