GST / HST / PST Sales Tax (2026)
How It Works
Enter a pre-tax amount and pick your province. The calculator applies the 2026 combined sales tax rate for that province (HST, GST + PST, or GST + QST) and shows the tax amount, the total including tax, and the rate used โ including the GST/PST split where applicable.
Reverse calculation: to work backwards from a tax-included total, divide the total by (1 + the combined rate). For Ontario's 13% HST, divide by 1.13 to find the pre-tax amount, then subtract it from the total to get the tax.
FAQ
- What is the difference between GST, HST and PST? GST is the 5% federal tax. HST combines GST with a provincial portion into one rate. PST is a separate provincial tax on top of GST (QST in Quebec).
- Which rate applies in my province? ON 13% HST; NB/NL/NS/PEI 15% HST; BC/MB 12% (5%+7%); SK 11% (5%+6%); QC 14.975% (5%+9.975%); AB & territories 5% GST only.
- How do I reverse-calculate the pre-tax amount? Divide the tax-included total by one plus the combined rate (e.g. รท1.13 in Ontario), then subtract to find the tax.
