UK VAT – CalcMyTax calculator

How It Works

Choose Add VAT when your amount is the net (VAT-exclusive) price: the VAT is the amount × rate and the gross is the amount plus VAT. Choose Remove VAT when your amount is the gross (VAT-inclusive) price: the net is the amount ÷ (1 + rate) and the VAT is the difference. The standard rate is 20%, with a 5% reduced rate and a 0% zero rate for certain goods and services.

FAQ

  • What is the standard UK VAT rate in 2026? 20%. A 5% reduced rate applies to some items (e.g. domestic fuel) and a 0% zero rate applies to items such as most food and children's clothing.
  • How do I remove VAT from a gross price? Divide the gross price by 1 + the rate. At 20%, £120 ÷ 1.20 = £100 net, so the VAT element is £20.
  • How do I add VAT to a net price? Multiply the net by the rate, then add it. At 20%, £100 + £20 VAT = £120 gross.
