How it works

This is an estimate for 2026/27. We deduct the Annual Exempt Amount of ยฃ3,000 from your gain to get the taxable gain. Your taxable income uses up part of the basic-rate band first, so the remaining basic-rate band is ยฃ37,700 โˆ’ (income โˆ’ ยฃ12,570), floored at zero. The portion of the taxable gain within that remaining band is taxed at 18% and anything above it at 24% โ€” these rates apply to both shares/other assets and residential property for disposals from 30 October 2024. A loss (gain โ‰ค 0) means no CGT is due.
